Baker Orders All Child Care Centers Closed By Monday

Gov. Charlie Baker has ordered all early education centers and child care providers to close by Monday in response to the coronavirus outbreak.

The day cares will remain closed until April 6. He said there will be exempt child care centers open to help families of those fighting COVID-19.

Families who work to maintain the health, safety and welfare of those in the state, as well as vulnerable children, will receive priority access to the exempt day cares.

"This approach prioritizes public health and safety while maintaining critical service for vulnerable children and the children of families who are required to work during this pandemic," a statement said.

Child care centers that currently receive subsidies from the state will continue to do so, even if they are closed. The state will pay the cost of parent fees for subsidized enrollment.
