Rockport Middle Schooler Reportedly Stabs Fellow Student

A 13-year-old Rockport Middle School student was arrested after reportedly stabbing another student Monday morning, police said.

Police said in a statement that the school resource officer responded to an incident involving a female student suffering from an apparent stab wound around 7:30 a.m. The suspect fled the scene but was arrested a short time later and now faces numerous charges, police said.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The school was placed in lockdown early this morning as police searched for the suspect. It was lifted at 9 a.m., and the school day resumed as normal.

Police said they would implement an increased presence at the school, but Chief John Hovarth said there is no danger to the school community.

The incident remains under investigation.
