Parade Magazine calls it "Phil-anthrophy." The town of Phil Campbell, Ala. was devastated by a tornado in April, killing 26 people, leveling most of the town's buildings and causing at least $30 million in damages. Now people from all over the world who share the town's name are coming together to help the town of about 1,000 people recover.

The Phils and Phyllises have already launched fund-raising campaigns, raised money to build a Habitat for Humanity house in Phil Campbell and set up a website to increase awareness.

Rita Barton, head of parks and recreation in Phil Campbell, Ala., told Here & Now's Robin Young: "It warmed my heart to know that people want to travel so far to assist."

This segment aired on June 15, 2011.
