  • Matthew Eddy, who rode his wheelchair across the country to set a Guinness Book World Record, founder of the charity Matt's Place

For people who use a wheelchair, a simple trip to the grocery store can be a challenge. Imagine traveling across the country in a wheelchair and on a ventilator!

That's what Matthew Eddy of Massachusetts did, and he set a Guinness book record for crossing the U.S. by wheelchair, the first person to do it.

Eddy is one of the oldest survivors of the disease Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, and he rode his motorized wheelchair from Boston to Long Beach, California to raise awareness for the severely disabled.

He completed the trip in 126 days, 4 hours and 2 minutes, raising money for his charity.

This segment aired on June 20, 2011.
