Trial Begins For Pitching Ace Roger Clemens, Accused Of Lying About Using Steroids

Jury selection begins today in the trial of 48-year-old baseball legend Roger Clemens. The seven-time Cy Young award-winning pitcher is charged with lying to Congress when he testified in 2008 that he never used steroids and human growth hormone, banned by Major League Baseball.

Clemens' attorney will try to discredit Clemens' former trainer Brian McNamee, who told Congressional investigators that he had personally injected Clemens with banned steroids and human growth hormone.

But former teammate Andy Pettitte is expected to take the stand against Clemens, to claim that Clemens once admitted to him that he'd used performance-enhancing drugs.

Michael McCann describes the case to Sports Illustrated as "a trial that could close the door on the steroid era in baseball and lead to arguably the best pitcher in the last 30 years being sentenced to prison."
