Singer Meklit Hadero Melds American Jazz With African Folk

Meklit Hadero left Ethiopia when she was just a toddler, but the country's musical traditions made a big impression on her.

Hadero, who lives in San Francisco, has weaved traditional Ethiopian sounds from her home country together with American jazz and folk sounds.

Filter Magazine describes her music as "N.Y jazz with West Coast folk and African flourishes."

Hadero maintains her connection with Ethiopia, traveling back there regularly to perform and reconnect with Ethiopians.
