2011 was an interesting year for country crooner Steve Earle: His latest album, "I'll Never Get Out Of This World Alive," picked up another Grammy nomination, but meanwhile, the character he plays in HBO's Treme didn't survive the second season.

"I'll Never Get Out Of This World Alive" is also the title of Earle's first novel, that also came out last year, the title borrowed from Hank Williams, the country music legend who died on New Years Day in 1953.
