Alberto Salazar set a world record in the 1981 New York Marathon. He won that race three times and added a win in Boston in 1982. He also qualified for the 1984 Olympic Marathon, where he finished 15th.

Today, Salazar coaches Olympic runners at his base in Oregon.

Salazar told Here and Now's Alex Ashlock that he's skeptical about just how much faster the 26.2 mile race can be run. "I don't believe in our lifetime, the human body as it is right now... I don't see the marathon going under 2 hours," he said.
