Brad and Andrew Barr grew up in Rhode Island and in high school played in a experimental rock band called "The Slip."

They also had a song featured on Guitar Hero. But after years of touring the brothers gave it all up the for the indie music scene in Montreal where they met up with harpist Sarah Page and keyboard player Andres Vial.

The four are now The Barr Brothers, and they released a self-titled debut album that reflects their quieter side.

Brad Barr told Here & Now's Robin Young that the band came about almost by accident.

"I moved into an apartment building and Sarah was my next door neighbor, and so I used to hear her playing her harp through my bedroom wall. And the song 'Sarah Through The Wall' was interesting because I heard her playing this little piece, this little motif, kind of repeating it, repeating it, and I liked it so much that I took the little bit that I heard and wrote the rest of the song and then went to her house and knocked on her door and said 'let's learn it, together," he said.
