Ryan Tedder was recently No. 6 on The Hollywood Reporter's list of music's top 35 hitmakers for his work as a singer, producer and songwriter.

He co-wrote "Rumor Has It" and "Turning Tables" with Adele and "Halo" with Beyoncé, as well as "Apologize" with his own band OneRepublic.

This week, OneRepublic releases its new album "Native" on CD, vinyl and digital download.

Tedder told Here & Now's Robin Young that "Native" is more of a playlist than a concept album.

The band experimented with various styles, including electronic dance pop for the song "If I Lose Myself," which is already a hit in Europe (see video below).

But the songs on the album are linked, he said.

"The whole album is about being human," said Tedder. "Love, loss, fear, faith, hope, death. 'Cause that's what I've been thinking about ... you turn 30 and all of a sudden the gravity of every day adds weight."

"If I Lose Myself" by OneRepublic:
