Four-year-olds across Michigan are settling into their pre-school routine. Some 16,000 of those children might not have been able to find spots in a high-quality program if it wasn't for a major expansion, paid for by Michigan taxpayers.

From the Here & Now Contributors Network, Sarah Hulett of Michigan Radio reports that those 16,000 seats were filled in a matter of weeks – and there are thousands more kids whose parents wanted to get in, but couldn’t.
