Street Protests Turn Deadly Ukraine, Thailand, Venezuela
ResumeAnti-government protesters have now been killed on the streets in Ukraine, Thailand and Venezuela. In Syria, anti-government street protests have morphed into a civil war. Edward Lucas of The Economist thinks there’s "one common thread" that unites protesters in these very different countries: a desire for good government.
He tells Here & Now's Robin Young it's "an appetite that is growing as people get choice and excellence in their private lives.” But Lucas says outside meddling from Russia in Ukraine and Iran and other Gulf states in Syria make those conflicts far more worrisome.
