On Tuesday, Facebook announced it is buying Oculus VR, a tech company that makes virtual reality headsets, for $2 billion.

Facebook and its chief executive, Mark Zuckerberg, expect virtual technology will be the next big computing platform, and will turn social networking into an interactive, 3-D experience.

The acquisition is not the only large purchase Facebook has made recently. Last month the social network announced it would pay $19 billion for the messaging startup WhatsApp.

NPR’s technology correspondent Steve Henn joins Here & Now's Jeremy Hobson to discuss this acquisition and how it might affect the future of social networking.
