Many people have seen the Cadillac ad for its new ELR vehicle. It's the one where actor Neal McDonough walks briskly through his modern multi-million dollar home, disparaging Europeans who take vacations and singing the praises of capitalism

The ad inspired this Huffington Post criticism: "Now, the luxury car company is selling a vision of the American Dream at its worst: Work yourself into the ground, take as little time off as possible, and buy expensive sh*t."

It also spawned a response ad from Ford in which an African-American woman talks about working for the greater good and being an entrepreneur. That woman is Pashon Murray, co-founder of Detroit Dirt, a company that takes in urban waste and turns it into compost for local farmers and gardeners.

Murray joins Here & Now's Robin Young to discuss her company and how being in this ad has changed her life.

Guest

  • Pashon Murray, co-founder of Detroit Dirt.

This segment aired on April 9, 2014.
