In a part of an interview with CNN's Anderson Cooper that aired last night, Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling claimed that he took so long to apologize for the racist remarks that got him banned from the NBA because basketball great Magic Johnson told him to stay quiet.

Even though Sterling at one point called Johnson "a good person," Sterling also criticized him.

On NBC's "Today Show," Sterling's estranged wife Shelley watched the CNN interview and said she thinks her husband has dementia.

More of Donald Sterling's interview will air tonight and Magic Johnson will also be on Anderson Cooper's show tonight to respond.

This segment aired on May 13, 2014.
