GlobalPost Co-Founder On Foley, Curtis And Training Foreign Correspondents

The family of freelance writer Peter Theo Curtis is expressing relief, after he was freed yesterday. Curtis, who writes under the name Theo Padnos, had been held for nearly two years by an al-Qaida affiliate in Syria.

The Curtis family says they are still mourning for the family of slain journalist James Foley, who was freelancing for GlobalPost when he was kidnapped two years ago. A video of Foley being beheaded was posted online last week by the Islamic State militant group.

GlobalPost co-founder Charlie Sennott is a former foreign correspondent himself. He's also executive director of the GroundTruth Project, which works to train the next generation of foreign correspondents to do their jobs safely.

Sennott speaks with Here & Now's Robin Young about the cases of both Peter Theo Curtis and James Foley, America's policy of not paying ransom, and the task of training and mentoring foreign correspondents.
