Louisiana Gov. Issues Executive Order To Better Protect Rape Survivors04:13
PlayLouisiana Governor Bobby Jindal last night issued an executive order demanding better protection for survivors of sexual assault. This comes after the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals unveiled a plan to prohibit hospitals from billing sexual assault victims for medical exams and care related to the assault.
These actions were the result of a NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune investigation finding that some rape survivors were being charged thousands of dollars by hospitals for their forensic exams and treatment. The Department of Health proposal would also eliminate a current requirement that survivors file a police report in order to be eligible for their medical bills to be covered.
Reporter Rebecca Catalanello tells Here & Now's Jeremy Hobson about her investigation and the changes proposed.
