Revisiting The Story Of A Long-Silent Auschwitz Survivor
ResumeSeventy years ago today, the concentration camp Auschwitz was liberated by Soviet Troops. We mark the occasion by revisiting Here & Now host Jeremy Hobson's 2014 conversation with Leslie Schwartz.
Schwartz and his family were deported from their home in Hungary to Auschwitz in 1944. He was the only member of that family to survive.
For decades, Schwartz kept silent about his experiences, but after an encounter with another camp survivor who was telling his story to German high school students, Leslie Schwartz also began visiting schools.
Guest
- Leslie Schwartz, Holocaust survivor. He is the co-author of “Surviving the Hell of Auschwitz and Dachau: A Teenage Struggle Toward Freedom From Hatred.”
This segment aired on January 27, 2015.
