Resume

The Los Angeles Times and journalist Jose-Antonio Vargas are teaming up on a new venture called #EmergingUS.

Vargas shared Pulitzer Prize for work he did on a team at The Washington Post in 2008. In 2011 he became an outspoken immigration activist, revealing his immigration status to the world in a New York Times Magazine article called “My Life as an Undocumented Immigrant.” Vargas was born in the Philippines and immigrated to the United States in 1993, when he was 12 years old.

The Los Angeles Times says the new vertical will cover subjects such as immigration and “the complexities of multiculturalism.” NPR Media Correspondent David Folkenflik speaks with Here & Now's Robin Young about #EmergingUS, and how other news organizations have walked the line between activism and journalism.
