Senator Rand Paul is entering the campaign for the Republican presidential nomination - saying he wants to "return our country to the principles of liberty and limited government."

The message was posted on his website in advance of a kickoff speech later today in his home state of Kentucky.

He's the second fully declared candidate, but could face as many as 20 rivals for the nomination before the caucuses begin early next year.

Mara Liasson is the national political correspondent for NPR and joins Here & Now's Jeremy Hobson to discuss Paul's announcement and his potential rivals.
