You can make a strong case that Stephen Foster wrote the American songbook, with songs such as "Oh! Susannah," "Jeanie With The Light Brown Hair," "My Old Kentucky Home" and "Camptown Races."

A new CD, "American Originals," collects some of those songs, performed by the Cincinnati Pops and Joe Henry, Aoife O'Donovan and Rosanne Cash among others.

Here & Now's Robin Young talks with Rosanne Cash who says these songs couldn't be more American.
