Here & Now’s Jeremy Hobson spoke with his friend Betty Esser and her daughter Kay Evans two years ago when he was in his hometown of Urbana, Illinois, to celebrate Betty’s 100th birthday.

On Monday, Betty turned 102. Today we revisit their conversation from 2014.

Betty Esser's Tips For Living A Long Life

“I don't stress with my life. I go with the flow. I try not to get upset about things. I think I'm sort of easygoing. I don't let things disturb me. The fact that I can't drive anymore — I know I don't have as much independence as I did, but I know that I have somebody that's taking care of me and where I need to be.

Another secret is I have a good night's sleep. I go to bed a little after 9, 10 o'clock and I get up around 7. I have a really good night's sleep, and I feel refreshed. I tell you, that's one of the things to stay healthy.”
