Miami Herald columnist Carl Hiaasen (@Carl_Hiaasen) is known for pulling bizarre, true-life stories from the Florida papers and turning them into novels.

In his 2016 work “Razor Girl,” Hiaasen takes the headline of a woman involved in a car accident while shaving herself and weaves a tale of scam artists, pseudo-reality television stars, beach erosion and Gambian pouched rats. The book came out in paperback this week.

We revisit Hiaasen's conversation with Here & Now's Robin Young from September, when the novel was first published.

This segment aired on May 3, 2017.
