Indian PM Vows 'Return To Glory' With Clampdown On Kashmir As Pakistan Marks A 'Black Day'

There are celebrations across India on Thursday marking 72 years since India's breakaway from British rule.

In his independence day address at New Delhi's Red Fort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi defended his explosive decision earlier this month to strip Indian-administered Kashmir of its special status, vowing to restore the region to its "past glory."

Kashmir has been under a curfew with no internet or phone service for more than a week. The situation has added another layer of tension to the already strained relationship between India and Pakistan.
