The United States began withdrawing troops from Afghanistan, the U.S. military said Tuesday. This takes a step forward on its peace deal with the Taliban while also praising Afghan president's promise to start releasing Taliban prisoners after he had delayed for over a week.

Here & Now's Tonya Mosley speaks with Jason Dempsey (@jason_k_dempsey), a retired Army officer who served two tours of duty in Afghanistan. He's now a non-resident fellow at the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft.
