Some of the world's richest people are pledging huge sums of money to help combat the coronavirus pandemic.

Twitter founder Jack Dorsey said last week he would donate $1 billion to “fund global COVID-19 relief." Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg and Tim Cook have also promised hundreds of millions of dollars in charitable donations to coronavirus-related causes.

And while that help may be welcome in the midst of a global crisis, it also raises questions about the tradeoffs we make when we depend on billionaires to save us.
