What Trump's Order On Meatpacking Plants Means For Workers

05:00

There has been a lot of reaction to President Trump's executive order Tuesday classifying meat processing plants as "critical infrastructure."

The announcement comes after thousands of workers at meatpacking plants have become sick with the coronavirus nationwide and around 20 have died. It's prompting some push back from worker advocates.

Here & Now's Tonya Mosley speaks with David Seligman (@daveyseligman), director of Towards Justice, a nonprofit law firm involved in a lawsuit against Smithfield Foods in Missouri over the coronavirus. There will be a hearing in the case on Thursday. We have reached out to Smithfield Foods for a comment.

This segment aired on April 29, 2020.
