Will Summer Camps Open This Year?

04:52

Summer camp is an iconic New Hampshire tradition. Some historians believe it actually started there on Squam Lake in 1880.

Ever since then, New Hampshire has played host to a seasonal ritual: Generation after generation of kids spending magical summer days in the woods and lakes. But over the next few weeks — and for many camps, for the first time in their history — camp directors are going to have to make a difficult choice. Is it safe enough to hold summer camp this year?

NHPR's Lauren Chooljian (laurenchooljian) reports.

This segment aired on May 14, 2020.
