The U.S. recorded 1,000 deaths in a single day for the first time in two weeks as the country inches towards four million infections — a quarter of the world's cases.

California recorded more than 12,807 cases in a single day, and Texas set a record for single-day deaths with close to 200. In Florida's Miami-Dade County, infections have topped 92,000 — 7,000 more than all of China.

Dr. Aileen Marty, an infectious disease specialist at Florida International University, joins host Robin Young to discuss the latest on the pandemic.

This segment aired on July 23, 2020.
