It's been an intense day of artillery fire and explosions in and around Ukraine's capital city, Kyiv, a city in its second day of curfew.

As residents take shelter, new reports are emerging that Ukraine has driven Russian forces out of the strategically significant town of Makariv, just outside the capital.

CNN senior international correspondent Fred Pleitgen is in Kyiv and talks to Here & Now host Scott Tong about the latest.

This segment aired on March 22, 2022.
