The ranch is owned by the Audubon Society, which requires certain livestock management practices to support a healthy bird population as part of Audubon's Conservation Ranching Program. (Ashley Ahearn) Open space in the West is at a premium, as development continues at breakneck speeds. One of the casualties is wildlife habitats. But a conservation project is partnering with ranchers to protect birds and promote sustainable agriculture.
