Hospitals in Gaza are barely running because of the Israeli air strikes, which started more than three weeks ago after the Hamas attack on southern Israel.

And they’re inundated with thousands of wounded and frightened people. Meanwhile every day, women are still giving birth.

NPR’s Elissa Nadworny tells us about one newborn: A baby girl named Mariam.

This segment aired on October 30, 2023.
