According to the United Nations migration agency, a record 6.9 million Congolese people have been displaced within the country of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Most of those displaced are in the eastern provinces where fighting has been ongoing for decades.

To understand why people are being forced to move within the country, host Robin Young speaks to Paul Nantulya from the African Center for Strategic Studies. We also hear the reporting of Congolese journalist Justin Kabumba, who writes for the Associated Press and France 24 from the eastern provincial capital of Goma.

This segment aired on November 16, 2023.
