In Venezuela, the government has announced it is launching a criminal probe into the country's opposition leaders. It's the latest move in President Nicolas Maduro's strategy to crush protests that have erupted over disputed election results.

Maduro has declared himself the victor of the country's July 28 election, but the opposition party and independent exit polls say otherwise. Now news outlets are running their own analyses of the election, including the Washington Post.

We hear from Samantha Schmidt, Bogota bureau chief for the Washington Post, on the Post's analysis.

This segment aired on August 6, 2024.
