Former Israeli hostage negotiator says return of bodies is 'not success'

06:35

“Rescuing 6 bodies is not success — it's shameful!" former Israeli hostage negotiator Gershon Baskin wrote in a social media post, referencing the recovery of the bodies of six Israeli hostages in an overnight operation in Gaza on Tuesday.

Baskin, also the Middle East director of the International Communities Organization, goes on to say that it would have been possible to save dozens of additional hostages back in November — something that didn’t happen because, Baskin writes, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wanted to "renew the war."

Baskin's observations come as pessimism sets in surrounding ceasefire negotiations — with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken reportedly criticizing Netanyahu for making statements that are not conducive to a cease-fire agreement. Host Scott Tong talks to Baskin about the future of negotiations and peace for Gaza and Israel.
