National security advisor Jake Sullivan makes his first trip to China

A high priority for the U.S. is pulling China back from its support for Russia and its war in Ukraine. China is emphasizing its red line; it sees Taiwan as a part of its national territory.

Also, in the high-level talks between national security advisor Jake Sullivan and China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi may be a possible meeting between Presidents Biden and Xi.

Here & Now's Scott Tong talks with Demetri Sevastopulo, the Financial Times correspondent covering U.S.-China relations. He writes that Sullivan's meetings in China this week come after a year and a half of stealth, back-channel diplomacy including several secret meetings across the globe.
