Friday night in Santa Fe, New Mexico, the city will gather for a special Santa Fe ritual — the burning of Zozobra, where a 50-foot-tall structure of Old Man Gloom, stuffed with peoples' worries, anxieties and gloomy thoughts, is set ablaze.

This year is the 100th anniversary of Zozobra.

Here & Now's Deepa Fernandes talks to Ray Sandoval, chair of the Zozobra committee, who has organized the event and built the structure for years.

This segment aired on August 30, 2024.
