Alaska fishery shuts down over salmon bycatch

05:49

A major fishery in Alaska had to be shut down for the rest of the year because two boats based in Kodiak unintentionally caught more than 2,000 king salmon in their nets while they were fishing for pollock. This incident is a hit to the state's economy — and to the public relations of trawl-style fisheries.

Northern Journal's Nathaniel Herz joins Peter O'Dowd to explain.

This segment aired on October 23, 2024.
