North Carolina quartz supplier devastated by Hurricane Helene
Hurricane Helene devastated much of the Southeast, including the small town of Spruce Pine in western North Carolina. Some of the purest quartz in the world is found in two mines there, and that quartz is a key component of tech products and solar panels. The fact that these mines had to be shut down for multiple weeks demonstrates the precariousness of green energy supply chains in the U.S.
