Taiwan and the history of U.S.-China tensions over the island
U.S. warships sailed through the Taiwan Strait this week. Last week China, staged war games near the island.
Sulmaan Khan is a professor of international history and Chinese foreign relations at Tufts University. His latest book is “The Struggle for Taiwan: A History of America, China and the Island Caught Between.”
He talks with Here & Now's Scott Tong about the history of the island, which Japan ruled before World War II, and about the history of U.S. and China's involvement in Taiwan.
