Washington Post, Los Angeles Times see backlash to non-endorsements

06:03

Editor's note: The Washington Post is an editorial partner of Here & Now.

The Washington Post and Los Angeles Times did not publish presidential endorsements over the weekend. In the wake of their decisions, both have seen high-profile resignations, criticism from their own writers and many outside the organizations. The Post appears to be losing some subscribers over it.

Critics of the decision are concerned that the reason the Washington Post is not endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris is due to the billionaire owner and founder of Amazon Jeff Bezos wanting to stay on the right side of former President Donald Trump should he win the election.

Host Scott Tong is joined by the Columbia Journalism Review's executive editor Sewell Chan. Chan used to be the editor of the Los Angeles Times editorial and opinion pages and also wrote for the Washington Post.

This segment aired on October 28, 2024.
