UCLA anthropologist Jason De León spent seven years embedded with a group of smugglers moving migrants across Mexico. He tells their stories in the book "Soldiers and Kings: Survival and Hope in the World of Human Smuggling" which is a finalist for the National Book Award nonfiction prize.

We revisit De León's May conversation with host Deepa Fernandes about the book.
