Looking for a new playlist for the holidays? You’ll probably want to check out "Pieces of Home," the new Smithsonian Folkways album from Grammy Award-winning all-ages performer (and former rock star of the band Del Fuegos) Dan Zanes and his jazz vocalist, music-therapist wife Claudia.

This album doesn’t feature Santa or elves, but it does blend cultures, genres, collaborations with other musicians and nods to two all-ages performers who passed this year: Ella Jenkins and Father Goose (Wayne Rhoden). Added to all this is a strong sense of values like togetherness, unity, family and friendship as well as a healthy dose of humor and rhythm.

Host Robin Young talks to Claudia and Dan Zanes about their album and commitment to community music.

This segment aired on December 16, 2024.
