French sailing cargo vessel to launch in January

06:28

Construction is nearly complete on the French sailing vessel, Neoline Origin. The ship is scheduled to be put in the water in January and will carry cargo on its maiden voyage from France to the East Coast of the United States by the summer of 2025.

Neoline will use wind power to reduce carbon emissions by 80% compared to a similar trip on a traditional cargo ship. It's part of a movement to clean up the maritime shipping industry around the world.

Here & Now's Peter O'Dowd has been following this story in 2024 and gets an update from Neoline president Jean Zanuttini.

This segment aired on December 27, 2024.
