Special Counsel Jack Smith resigns

05:13

The federal investigations into President-elect Donald Trump are officially over.

Jack Smith, the special counsel appointed more than two years ago to lead probes into Trump's alleged role in trying to overturn the 2020 election results and Trump's alleged taking of classified documents, quietly resigned last week.

For more on the work he did, host Scott Tong speaks to Richard Painter, a former White House ethics lawyer under former President George W. Bush and now a professor at the University of Minnesota Law School.

This segment aired on January 13, 2025.
