DEI programs need to be overhauled, not eliminated, advocates say
Corporate efforts to improve diversity — often called diversity, equity and inclusion, or DEI — have faced backlash recently. Some major companies like McDonald's and Walmart have rolled back their efforts to improve diversity and inclusion. And DEI has become a political target on the right, with President-elect Donald Trump saying he wants to ban all federally funded DEI initiatives.
The creators of these programs and many companies believe DEI efforts still serve an important role and that they are good for their business and their bottom line. They're advocating for DEI initiatives to be overhauled to be more effective, not eliminated completely.
