How Trump's executive actions mirror Woodrow Wilson's administration

09:34

One of the first executive orders President Trump signed when he took office in January eliminated the federal government's diversity programs and halted federal funding on such programs. This action reminds historians of another president's efforts to undo racial diversity in the federal workforce: Woodrow Wilson, who took office in 1913.

Here & Now's Scott Tong speaks with Eric Yellin about how Wilson re-segregated the federal workforce and what parallels he sees to Trump's actions today. Yellin is an associate professor of history at the University of Richmond and the author of the book "Racism in the Nation's Service."

This segment aired on February 6, 2025.
