Republican budget plan could cut Medicaid spending
On Tuesday night, House Republicans pushed through their budget blueprint by the skin of their teeth. Some Republicans opposed to Speaker Mike Johnson's package of directives were only convinced to vote yes after President Trump called them up directly.
The bill directs lawmakers to advance nearly $5 trillion in tax cuts over 10 years, solidify Trump’s border agenda, and find $2 trillion in spending cuts. Those cuts include a directive to the House Energy and Commerce Committee to find $880 billion in cuts to federal programs, which some say will come from reduced Medicaid spending.
Here & Now’s Robin Young speaks with NPR Washington correspondent Claudia Grisales about what's in the bill and what to expect next.
