The company turning wind produced by idling jets into renewable energy

05:48

A quarter century ago, orthopedic surgeon Dr. T.O. Souryal was seated in the window seat on a plane when he noticed the jets of his idling aircraft created a bunch of wind and thought, "What if we captured that?"

After years of tinkering and experimenting, his company, JetWind Power, does just that by making "pods" of mini-turbines that harness jet wind into energy that goes back into powering the airport.

We speak with Souryal about how this technology works and the potential it has to alleviate the burden on the electrical grid.

This segment aired on March 3, 2025.
