What cuts to the federal government mean for Native American communities
As President Trump works to reshape the federal government through cuts, Native American communities are concerned about how their basic needs will be impacted and want the public to better understand tribal sovereignty — the unique constitutional right that tribes have to make their own governing decisions.
Here & Now’s Deepa Fernandes speaks with Levi Rickert — founder, publisher and editor of Native News Online — and Dawna Hare, a member of the Pawnee Nation’s tribal council in Oklahoma. She also teaches classes in American Indian sovereignty at Oklahoma State University.
